My Night Skincare Routine

health and beauty blog

How many times have self-styled beauty gurus asked you to wash your face before you go to bed?

Did they ever tell you what to do after washing your face?

Will it ever be enough for your skin to just get a nice wash in the evening?

No. Good skin cannot be achieved by simply washing your face at night. You must do much more than that. Today, I will be sharing my night skincare routine with you all. Read and let me know if you liked it.

Cleansing

You don’t just have to wash your face with a good facial cleanser. Also opt for a good makeup remover so that traces of these products don’t stay in your skin and cause breakouts. Use lukewarm water to wash your face. You can also use a cleansing brush to gently remove all product buildup.

Use a face mask

One of the essentials of my night time skin care is hydrating masks. These nourishing masks help your skin rejuvenate after wearing makeup and products all day long. Masks restore the skin’s ph balance as well. I like to change the masks frequently. Some days I use hydrating masks while on other days, when I am too tired, I opt for aromatherapy masks. They help me relax and sleep better.

Retinol/Retinoid use

A face mask has helped your skin rejuvenate already. However, a touch of retinol will help in making it look even better. Simply use a cream containing retinol or retinoid and apply it all over your face. These creams are great for tired and dull skin and will brighten up your complexion quickly and efficiently. Once you have applied retinoid, you will need some extra moisturization.

A layer of moisturizer

I use light moisturizers for the day and thick moisturizers for the night. The skin repairs itself during the night and you can easily depend on thicker, heavier moisturizers to help the skin do its repair job better. Also, using retinoid can have a drying effect on the skin. Hence, it is always better to hydrate your skin extensively. The more hydrated your skin is, the healthier it will look. Some women with oily skins avoid moisturizers. However, they also need hydration. Try using a gel based moisturizer for your skin for the best results.

An eye cream is necessary

Before going to bed, I always apply a night eye cream. Your skin has already taken a beating during the day. You don’t want dark circles under your eyes. Your eyes can look very baggy or dark in the morning if you don’t apply a night cream. Be very careful with the application of these creams. I prefer the stick varieties as they are easier to handle and apply.

I sometimes use face oils instead of moisturizers on my face. These oils help you get a clear, glowing skin by the morning and their regular usage has made my skin plumper, softer, and smoother.

So, this was my night skincare routine. What do you do before bed to keep your skin looking healthy and beautiful? Let me know.
