How to get whiter teeth

A white smile is a happy smile, but knowing how to achieve that is much more challenging that one may at first think. Everyone is looking for a quick fix to get their teeth looking pearly white without having to spend loads and take a lot of time.

Here are some of the options at hand:

Dental Whitening

It is best to visit a dentist to get your teeth whitened because they know how to do it safely with the least damage to your teeth.

There are many treatments you can choose from; including in-chair laser whitening that changes the colour of your teeth through the application of a bleaching agent before using a special light that then lifts the shade of your teeth. This method is extremely quick and you can see the difference after 15 minute session immediately.

Whitening at home

Your dentist can provide a whitening treatment that you can use at home. They’ll take a mould of your teeth and jaw and then use that to build you your own personalised whitening kit so that you can safely whiten your teeth from the comfort of your own home!

Natural Remedies

Recently there has been a spike in the trend of methods such as ‘oil pulling’ which is said to have amazing benefits when done for 20 minutes every morning before brushing.  People say it helps whiten their teeth as well as reduce symptoms of periodontal disease and bleeding gums. Do research this fully before trying and always make sure you know the risks before starting anything like this.

Avoid stain-culprits

To keep your teeth white, avoid staining them in the first place. This means you better quit smoking, hold back on the coffee and sugary drinks and also avoid things such as red wine and other stain-culprits.

Eat more healthy fruits and vegetables that help wash your teeth and stick to water other than sugary or caffeinated drinks.

Less effective methods include:

  • Whitening toothpaste
  • Foods that ‘whiten your teeth’

It is always best to get your teeth professionally whitened by a dentist. This prevents the likeliness of damage and problems that could occur with the process.
